Join Tânia Cypriano and Sayre Quevedo on Deli Radio for a 90-minute conversation about how music and sound shape their storytelling practices. Through a selection of meaningful tracks, they’ll discuss the role of sound in their work and share the music that has inspired their creative process.
Tânia Cypriano is a Brazilian filmmaker with over 25 years of experience working between Brazil and the United States. Her Emmy-nominated documentary Born to Be follows Dr. Jess Ting at Mount Sinai’s Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery. Her award-winning films have been showcased globally, including at MoMA, the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival. She has directed documentaries for PBS, History Channel, NHK, and Channel 4, and received grants from institutions like NYSCA, NYFA, and the Soros Documentary Fund. Tânia is a co-founder of the Brazilian Filmmakers Collective and currently directs the Films Fellowship Program at the Bronx Documentary Center.
Sayre Quevedo is a documentary artist working across mediums to explore intimacy, identity, and human relationships. Starting as a reporter at Youth Radio in Oakland at 15, his work has appeared on NPR, BBC, McSweeney’s, and more. Quevedo’s audio documentary shorts Espera and The Return won prestigious awards, including the Third Coast/RHDF Gold Award and IDA nominations. In 2022, he won the IDA’s Best Stand-Alone Audio Documentary for Documenting a Death by Euthanasia. He has worked with The New York Times, NPR, VICE News, and currently teaches at Columbia University and NYU. Quevedo is also a founding editorial board member of Sound Fields Journal.
